In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “The Kindness of Strangers.”
When was the last time a stranger did something particularly kind, generous, or selfless for you? Tell us what happened!
Famished that we were, we decided to head out to the nearest “hawker” place near home. It was drizzling when we went out and as we walked, it grew stronger and stronger until rain droplets were all over our clothes. We came in the food place and already, one uncle asked us why we didn’t bring an umbrella. He was so concerned that we somehow got soaked up in the rain, very evident from our wet hair and our post sprint heavy breathing. lol. I ordered hot noodles from him and sat ourselves down and devoured the food. He approached us with an umbrella saying that we could have it so that it would be safe for us to cross back home, I insisted that he might need it but he insisted even more. Then, he even gave us candies after we ate. I expressed my sincere gratitude for uncle. While we were going back home, we saw him going out under the rain only with a box made up as a cover for his head, heading out to the garbage area – the back portion of the food place. And I said, it was indeed an act of kindness from a perfect stranger without even thinking first about his need for it. How many amongst us would share or even give out his own umbrella for someone who he doesn’t know at all?
